Hit-and-run driver flees after wrecking car and road sign on Brooker Highway

A driver has fled the scene of a crash that left a trail of destruction after slamming into a sign and an oncoming vehicle on the Brooker Highway this afternoon.

The collision happened around 5pm, just north of the Derwent Park Road intersection in Hobart’s north.

Police told Pulse witnesses reported the white Nissan Skyline “had been speeding” prior to the crash.

The impact was so severe it tore the car’s bumper off, which was left on the grassed median strip alongside its number plate.

A large road sign was also badly damaged.

Despite the force of the collision, police said no one was injured.

Several motorists stopped to help at the scene, while the driver of the white Nissan took off with the vehicle.

Police are now searching for the car, with has the registration M58RM.

“Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the crash or has seen a white Nissan Skyline … with a damaged front end to contact them on 131 444,” police said.
