The state government has launched a “comprehensive review” of the greater Hobart bus network, promising “improved routes and timetables” across the city and surrounding areas.
The review will cover services in key regions including New Norfolk, Sorell, the Southern Beaches, Richmond, Campania and the Huon Valley.
All major public transport operators – Metro, Tassielink and Kinetic – are included in the process.
“The review’s focus is on routes and frequencies, on where people are travelling to, and if they are able to use the bus for their day-to-day journeys,” a State Growth spokesperson said.

“Importantly, this review will help us understand, directly from the community, what is working and what needs improving.”
Public consultation is now open, with feedback welcomed from both regular bus users and those who rarely or never catch public transport.

The review will look closely at route design, service frequency and how well the network meets people’s everyday travel needs.
According to the department, the updated network will aim to deliver services that are “reliable, easy to use and convenient” while improving “access to jobs and everyday needs like shopping and social activities”.
The government has committed to further consultation once potential changes are identified, with the initial feedback phase remaining open until June 20.
The review comes amid ongoing discussions around the possible sale and privatisation of Metro Tasmania.
