Hobart duo with no fixed address arrested after jewellery, cash stolen

Two people with no fixed address have been arrested by police following a string of thefts in Hobart’s CBD on Thursday.

Police allege that a 28-year-old man stole jewellery from a store in the Cat and Fiddle Arcade around 4:10pm yesterday.

Later that evening, a 41-year-old woman allegedly stole cash from a cafe in Centrepoint Shopping Centre at 6:30pm, before smashing the display cabinet of a nearby jewellery store and stealing jewellery.

She is also accused of unlawfully entering an art studio on Macquarie Street minutes later and stealing several items, including a laptop.

The pair were later tracked to an address in Warrane and arrested overnight.

The man has been charged with multiple offences including stealing, injury property and drug possession.

The woman is facing charges for burglary and stealing.

Both will appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court today.
