A young father has been charged with allegedly causing grievous bodily harm to his 11-week-old daughter after she was rushed to hospital with severe head injuries.
The 24-year-old from Claremont appeared in Hobart Magistrates Court today to face charges over the incident, which police allege took place at a home in the Hobart suburb on Wednesday.
The baby remains in a serious condition in hospital.
The court heard that the man picked up his crying daughter and shook her multiple times for about a minute.

As reported by 7 Tasmania, he allegedly told police he knew he shook her too many times and admitted he had grown frustrated with how agitated the baby was.
His lawyer told the court that the baby had been crying for 20 minutes and her father had been unable to calm her.

The court also heard that the accused had consumed marijuana on the night of the alleged incident.
The man did not enter a plea and will again appear in court on March 20.
