The Hobart Hurricanes have cemented their place in Australian cricket history after their women’s team claimed their maiden WBBL Championship with a commanding eight-wicket victory.
The win comes just 10 months after the men’s side secured their first BBL title, making Hobart the third team to hold both Australian T20 crowns simultaneously, joining the Sydney Thunder in 2015/16 and the Perth Scorchers in 2021/22.
Led by a spectacular unbeaten 77 from Lizelle Lee, the Hurricanes chased down their target of 138 with five overs to spare.
Lee smashed 10 fours and four sixes in her 44-ball blitz, dominating a Perth bowling attack that had no answers for her power hitting.

For Hurricanes captain Elyse Villani, the victory was particularly sweet after experiencing three finals losses with previous teams.
“It feels really magical, a fairytale, I’m really emotional,” she said.

“I’m so proud of everyone involved and pleased for everyone in Tasmania.”
