Hobart’s Ninja Stadium was transformed into a sea of purple last night as over 13,000 fans flocked to the ground to witness the Hobart Hurricanes secure a thrilling 12-run victory against the Sydney Sixers.
The sell-out crowd erupted with cheers and chants throughout the match, leaving Cricket Tasmania officials beaming.
“It’s huge. It just shows that there’s a real appetite for live sport and especially high-quality teams [in Tasmania],” a spokesperson told Pulse.
“It’s definitely exciting knowing what’s coming in the future regarding stadia in Tasmania.”
The Hurricanes will host either the Melbourne Stars, Sydney Sixers or Sydney Thunder for the Big Bash grand final at Ninja Stadium next Monday.
“We don’t really know who we’re preparing for yet, but either way, we know it’ll be a cracking game,” the spokesperson said.
Cricket Tasmania says fans have been eager to get their hands on tickets for the next game ahead of sales to the general public opening at midday today.
“There were 3,000 people on the waitlist to get members’ tickets through Ticketek and about 80 people lined up at the front of the stadium to buy tickets.”
