A spectacular storm over Tasmania this afternoon has produced a dazzling display.
Three large lightning bolts struck the Broadcast Australia tower on Kunanyi/Mount Wellington in Hobart around 3:30pm.
Ben Stokman, who was in South Hobart at the time, witnessed the lightning strikes and managed to capture a video just as they hit.
The tower, which provides TV and radio services for Southern Tasmania, is designed to withstand lightning strikes.

A lightning arrestor located at the top of the tower, 131 metres above the 1271m tall mountain, safely discharges lightning energy into the earth.
Lightning naturally seeks the tallest conductive object in an area because it provides the shortest and easiest path to the ground.

The Bureau of Meteorology says the storm’s peak has now passed, with thundery conditions sitting off the state’s east coast.
