Hobart is in for its warmest day in weeks this Sunday, with temperatures in the capital forecast to reach 27 degrees under mostly sunny skies.

The temperature will climb well above the November average, making it the pick of the weekend for outdoor activities across southern Tasmania.

Saturday will bring partly cloudy conditions with a top of 21 degrees, but Sunday is shaping up to be much warmer, with light winds and only a slight chance of rain.

“Mostly sunny day. Slight chance of a shower, most likely in the evening,” the Bureau of Meteorology said.

The warm spell comes as a weak ridge settles over Tasmania on Saturday, before an approaching cold front moves across the state on Sunday evening.

Northeasterly winds of 15 to 25km/h will shift north-westerly during the afternoon in Hobart.

The warm weather won’t stick around for long. Monday will bring a sharp change as a low-pressure system develops near Tasmania, delivering showers statewide and noticeably cooler temperatures.

Other parts of Tasmania will also enjoy warmer conditions on Sunday, with Launceston reaching 24 degrees and St Helens hitting 21 degrees.

The north-west coast will stay cooler, with Devonport and Burnie reaching just 18 degrees and a higher chance of showers developing through the afternoon.
