A Tasmanian animal shelter is calling for urgent community support as it faces a surge in feline arrivals during peak kitten season.
Ten Lives Cat Centre in New Town is currently caring for more than 200 cats and kittens, with new arrivals coming through their doors daily.
Ten Lives CEO Noel Hunt said the centre is experiencing the full impact of kitten season and desperately needs additional volunteer support.
“We urgently need both volunteers and foster carers right now,” Hunt said.

“Cats and kittens are coming through the doors daily and all need care, either here at Ten Lives or in foster homes in the community.”
The centre is seeking about 50 more foster carers in the short term who can provide temporary homes for cats and kittens awaiting adoption.

“Even a short term commitment makes a real difference,” Hunt said.
Volunteers are also needed across various roles including animal care and customer service at the front counter.
The New Town facility is inviting interested community members to take a behind-the-scenes tour of the centre to witness firsthand the critical work being done.
This opportunity will allow potential volunteers and foster carers to see how their support can directly impact the welfare of cats and kittens in need.
