Tasmania has secured hosting rights for the Australian Tourism Export Council’s (ATEC) Meeting Place in October 2026, marking the first time the state will host the prestigious event.
The announcement was made in Perth on Wednesday night following Tourism Tasmania’s successful bid for the event.
It will bring more than 600 delegates to Hobart, including 120 international travel buyers from key markets.
Tourism Minister Jane Howlett said the event is a significant opportunity for the state.

“This is a terrific opportunity to elevate Tasmania’s global tourism profile, lifting awareness of our island’s unique and premium tourism offerings to some of the world’s most influential travel buyers,” Howlett said.
“These buyers have the power to amplify Tasmania’s reach across global markets and support long-term growth in international visitation.”

The three-day event, scheduled for 26-28 October 2026, is expected to generate millions of dollars for the local economy through venue activations and hotel bookings across Hobart.
ATEC Meeting Place is considered one of Australia’s major travel trade events, featuring business meetings, destination showcases, networking events and conference programs.
Tourism Tasmania CEO Sarah Kingston Clark said hosting the event aligns with the state’s strategic goals.
“Hosting ATEC Meeting Place 2026 will strengthen Tasmania’s international presence and support our goal to grow international visitation to 20% of total visitation by 2030,” Kingston Clark said.

She added that tourism operators will deliver unique experiences for travel buyers, including pre and post-event itineraries showcasing Tasmania’s attractions.
