Hobart’s official favourite Christmas light display has been switched back on for 2023.

Johnny’s light show on Molle Street is not only spreading holiday cheer but also raising funds for Hobart City Mission this year, with the charity strongly encouraging visitors to bring along a toy to donate for those in need.

Hobart City Mission Events Officer Verity Davis says the City Mission Christmas Assistance Program plays a crucial role in providing food packs, food vouchers and toys to families who would otherwise struggle to make ends meet during the Christmas season.

“This year the demand for Christmas Assistance has soared, with over 1,648 families applying for assistance – a 63% increase compared to 2022,” she said.

“Those 1,648 families include nearly 3,000 children, who will all receive a gift, thanks to the generosity of the local community, and toy drive hosts like Johnny.”

The display will run between December 1 to 31 from 8pm to 11pm at 121 Molle Street in West Hobart each night.
