The speed limit on a section of Hobart’s Brooker Highway heading out of the city is set to be reduced from 80km/h to 70km/h.
The change will only impact the northbound lane and is based on the crash history of the area, the Department of State Growth says.
It will apply for 360 metres from the Burnett Street intersection.
“The extended 70km/h speed limit will reduce the risk of crashes by providing road users with extra time when entering or exiting the highway via the [BP] service station and Federal Street intersection,” the Commissioner for Transport said.
According to the department, the change will only impact travel time by a few seconds.
The speed limit adjustment will take effect once new signage is installed, which is anticipated for the week beginning August 26.
The adjustment follows similar changes made on the East Derwent Highway earlier this month.
