Lonely Planet has named Hobart’s Farm Gate Market as one of the top ten best markets in the world.
The popular Sunday market, often overshadowed by Salamanca Market, features only Tasmania’s best local produce and artisanal products.
From humble beginnings in 2009 with just 12 local producers, Farm Gate Market has blossomed into a vibrant community institution.
It transforms Bathurst Street into a bustling hub part of the weekend ritual for many locals and visiting tourists

Organisers expressed their excitement and pride over the recognition, calling it a ‘tear-inducing’ achievement.
They took to social media to say “there was a tear or two of pride” when they received their eighth-place ranking.

“We’ve done good. All of us. What an achievement. Congratulations,” they added.
The market is open every Sunday from 8:30am to 1pm.
