Hobart’s newest councillor has officially been elected following a post state election recount.
Gemma Kitsos will take the place of former councillor Helen Burnet, who was recently elected as an MP with the Tasmanian Greens.
Tasmanian Electoral Commissioner Andrew Hawkey said sixteen eligible candidates nominated to contest the recount.
“Gemma Kitsos has been elected as councillor to serve until the 2026 ordinary elections,” he said.
The position of Deputy Lord Mayor will be filled by a ballot undertaken by councillors at the next council meeting.

In 2022, Kitsos ran as a candidate with The Greens.
“I’m really delighted to announce today that on the ticket with Councillor Harvey and myself will be Menzies researcher and mother from South Hobart, Gemma Kitsos,” Burnet said at the time.
“So five candidates for the Greens running on those issues that are really important to them, but really important to benefit our city as well.”
