After more than 16 years, Hobart’s Observatory Bar have announced they will be ‘bidding farewell’ to partygoers next month.

The ‘Obar’ nightclub moved to its current Franklin Wharf location, previously occupied by IsoBar, in 2019 after 12 years at nearby Murray Street Pier.

It is understood owners Pub Banc, who also operate Salamanca’s Cargo Bar and Post Street Social venues, are working to ‘revitalise the venue’ and will launch a new brand and format.

Pulse can exclusively reveal the 11 Franklin Wharf location will become home to ‘Muse’, a new ‘specialty rotating DJ concept’ developed with inspiration from the Melbourne nightclub scene.

A new ‘Insomnia Fridays’ weekly event has been trialed at the Obar venue recently, which Pub Banc say will now become permanent as part of Muse.

A similar ‘Muse Saturdays’ concept will launch in the venue from November 11 for a “new era in [Hobart] entertainment”, according to Pub Banc.

“Get ready for November’s lineup of renowned DJs, including the likes of Bread Gang, Press Play, Colin Hennerz, Teddy Cream, Rockafellas, Ebony Grayce, Eliza Brayshaw, Nath Jennings, Kaos DJs, Madeleine, and more,” the operator said in a statement.

November 4 will be the last official night of Obar, when the ‘bunny will hop out one final time’.
