Hobart’s top dogs revealed: Labradors and Charlies most popular

New data on dog registrations in the Hobart City Council area has recently been released, revealing the most popular names and breed among dog owners.

According to the council, there were 5,568 active dog registrations in Hobart over the last year.

Sandy Bay residents were the owners of the highest number of active registered dogs, followed by Lenah Valley, New Town, West Hobart and South Hobart.

Among the registered dogs, Labradors were the most popular breed.

Charlie topped the charts as the most popular name in the city, closely followed by Daisy.

The data also showed a near-equal split between male and female registered dogs, with males making up around 51% and females 49%.

Dog owners in the city are being reminded to keep on top of their pets registrations as the August 31 deadline approaches.

Sterilised dogs start at $69, while unsterilised dogs cost $144.
