After half a century operating under the name Colony 47, a Tasmanian youth charity has unveiled a bold new brand identity.

The organisation, which provides essential services to young people in need across the state, has rebranded as Home Base.

Established in 1973 by Jim Colville, Colony 47’s name was inspired by the address of its headquarters at 47 Davey Street in Hobart and the notion of a ‘colony’ of individuals coming together to support those facing adversity.

According to chief executive Dianne Underwood, the new name was chosen by young Tasmanians and better reflects the organisation’s purpose.

Colony 47 has rebranded as Home Base

“The name ‘Home Base’ resonated with the young people we support and symbolises a safe starting point for those on the journey to stability and independence,” she said.

“While we honour our heritage, the meaning of words changes over time and we needed our name to reflect our current purpose and vision for the future.”

Underwood said Home Base will remain an independent organisation and continue to advocate for people in need, especially young Tasmanians.

“Through collective efforts, we’ve made a remarkable difference in the lives of countless individuals, enabling them to overcome adversity and embrace a brighter future,” she said.
