Homes Tasmania is calling on builders to help deliver the state’s first small-lot housing development.
The government housing agency this week opened expressions of interest for qualified builders to join its Huntingfield ‘Land to Build’ program, which will offer pre-designed house-and-land packages south of Hobart.
The Huntingfield subdivision will feature lots averaging 450 square metres, with a mix of terraces, townhouses and detached homes.
It is the first time Homes Tasmania has embraced small-lot housing – a model it says is already proving successful on the mainland, where soaring land prices have pushed many first-home buyers out of the market.
“Huntingfield will be developed as a high-quality, subdivision offering house and land packages that meet contemporary housing design standards developed specifically for the site,” a spokesperson said.

“Successful builders would gain priority access to land and benefit from a streamlined pathway to market.”
The program will link with the state’s MyHome shared-equity scheme, which lowers both upfront costs and ongoing expenses for home buyers struggling to get a foot on the property ladder.
Homes Tasmania says it is looking for builders that want to deliver a “well-designed and vibrant community, prioritising quality, efficiency and affordability” across a “suite of base home designs”.
