Homes Tasmania has taken possession of a large block of undeveloped Crown land in Tasmania’s north that it want to build 100 social and affordable homes on.

The 12.4ha site in Ravenswood, north-east of Launceston, will be subdivided into 100 lots ranging from 501sqm to 1863sqm in size.

The development will also include a 4421sqm lot for public open space and a new road with two junctions with Wildor Crescent.

The land was made subject to a Housing Land Supply Order by Planning Minister Michael Ferguson to allow for ‘quick and easy’ rezoning for development.

Planning documents currently in front of the Launceston City Council say the site is “located within close proximity to social, transport and other public services such as bus routes, open space, local services and as such is ideal for type of infill development envisaged and able by the proposed subdivision”.

“The lots will create further opportunity for a range of dwelling types to be constructed as infill development, while largely retaining the existing streetscape,” they said.

Homes Tasmania constructed around 1,400 new dwellings at the end of the latest financial year and aims to build 10,000 new social and affordable homes by 2032.
