Crime Stoppers has its sights set on a suspected shoplifter believed to have swiped thousands of dollars’ worth of alcohol from retailers across northern Tasmania.

Their latest ‘Know Them? Name Them’ campaign has zeroed in on an individual accused of stealing $7,216 worth of alcohol over multiple incidents in Launceston.

CCTV footage shows the alleged thief wearing a hoodie and mask – and in one shot a cap – to hide their face.

Crime Stoppers is urging anyone with information to “please speak up” and help police with the case.

Launching the campaign this month, Crime Stoppers Tasmania General Manager Aldo Antolli said the program relies heavily on the public’s help.

“We know in most cases, these people are known to someone and we are asking the community to help us identify them,” he said.

“Shoplifting costs all of us in the end because the losses are eventually passed on to the consumer.”

In some past cases, suspects have been identified within minutes of their images going online. One even handed themselves in after being recognised.
