Hooded thief caught on camera stealing ute from service station

Three people have been arrested after a ute was allegedly stolen from a service station and driven dangerously in convoy with another vehicle through Tasmania’s south-east earlier this week.

The Mitsubishi Triton was reportedly taken from Nubeena around 9:15am on Wednesday.

CCTV footage seen by Pulse shows a Mazda 3 pulling up next to the parked ute at the pump.

A person wearing a hoodie is seen getting out of the Mazda and jumping into the ute, which was driven off within seconds.

According to police, the Triton and Mazda were then driven in convoy through Dunalley, Bream Creek and into the Sorell area.

Both vehicles allegedly evaded police during the journey.

Officers later intercepted the Mazda and discovered what they described as a “large amount of suspected stolen property” inside. Three people were arrested at the scene.

A 23-year-old man with no fixed address has been charged with burglary, two counts of aggravated burglary, three counts of motor vehicle stealing and 11 counts of stealing as a result of the incident.

He also faces charges of evading police under aggravated circumstances and multiple driving offences.

A 26-year-old woman from George Town has been charged with two counts of motor vehicle stealing, one count of stealing and several traffic offences.

A 26-year-old man from Hillwood faces two counts of motor vehicle stealing, evading police under aggravated circumstances, negligent driving and other driving offences.

The 23-year-old man and the woman were both refused bail, while the Hillwood man was granted bail.

Police are still searching for the missing ute and are asking anyone with information or dash cam footage from Wednesday’s incident to come forward.
