A huge hailstorm has lashed parts of Hobart this afternoon as thunderstorms and heavy rain sweep across much of Tasmania.
The passing storm brought more than 8,000 lightning strikes to the sky over a 6-hour period on Wednesday, according to the BOM.
Residents from Glenorchy to the Huon Valley reported hailstones of various sizes, with the hailstones growing larger as the storm moved south.
A severe thunderstorm warning remains in effect for some areas, with the BOM saying the storm is currently moving towards the Orford area.

“A trough is combining with anomalously high instability and moisture content to trigger severe thunderstorm activity across central and southeastern parts of the state,” the BOM say.
“Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in the warning area over the next several hours.”
“Locations which may be affected include Orford, Geeveston, Dover, Huonville, Dodges Ferry and Bagdad.”
