Plans for two new fast-food restaurants and a service station are in the works for an empty site next to the Glebe Hill Shopping Complex, it can be revealed.
Designs for the $7.5 million development between Howrah and Rokeby on Hobart’s eastern shore have recently been submitted to the Clarence City Council.
A 24/7 Hungry Jack’s restaurant and Caltex service station are proposed to occupy the site, alongside a KFC store.
The neighbouring Glebe Hill Shopping Centre, which opened in August 2022, already features a McDonald’s outlet, Coles supermarket and various other small stores.
“The proposed development comprises four fuel bowsers, a service station building to the south-east of site, a Hungry Jack’s with drive-through to the north of site, a KFC with drive-through to the south-west of site and parking dispersed around the site,” the application reads.
“Immediately to the east of site is the existing Glebe Hill Village … the primary shopping centre for a large number of residents of the surrounding suburbs of Glebe Hill, Rokeby, Howrah, Clarendon Vale and Oakdowns.”
In February, the council approved an application for a ‘KFC-type’ fast-food restaurant and additional shops at the nearby Cambridge Homemaker Centre.
The application is open for representations with the Clarence City Council until April 30.
