Hobart Hungry Jack's restaurant engulfed in flames as firefighters rush to scene

Firefighters are battling a blaze that has engulfed a Hungry Jack’s restaurant in Hobart’s northern suburbs.

Flames and thick black smoke can be seen billowing from the roof of the fast-food outlet on Main Road in Glenorchy.

Tasmania Fire Service crews were called to the scene just before 8:30pm on Tuesday.

A spokesperson told Pulse multiple crews have been dispatched to the blaze and advised those in the area to avoid smoke.

“Smoke from this fire is visible in the … Tolosa Street, Swallow Parade and Chapel Street area,” they said.

“There is no threat to the general public. People who don’t need to be in the immediate area should stay away.”

Tasmania Police have closed Main Road in both directions between Grove Road and Chapel Street.

“Police advise motorists and pedestrians to avoid the area if possible,” they said.

The blaze has left the community shocked, with hundreds taking to social media within minutes of the news breaking on Pulse.
