A family in Mountain River in the Huon Valley south of Hobart have been left devastated after a fire destroyed their home last night.
Emergency services were called to Bennetts Road around 7:15PM to find the two-story residence engulfed in smoke.
Despite the quick response from three fire crews from Huonville, Sandfly and Grove brigades, officials say the house was completely destroyed.
Fire investigators have determined that the fire was accidentally started in the kitchen from a pot that was left unattended.
“This fire is a very real reminder of the dangers of leaving cooking unattended,” said Fire Investigator Adam Salter.

“Luckily the residence was fitted with fire alarms which alerted the occupants to the fire.”
“Had it not been for the fire alarms the outcome could have been devastating,” he said.
Two adults, who were inside the house at the time of the fire, managed to escape with their lives – only suffering from smoke inhalation.
They were treated by paramedics on site.
