Police have arrested one person after a disturbance involving a group of about six people in Huonville early this morning.
Inspector Colin Riley said officers were called to the intersection of Esplanade and Main Road at around 1:10am on Wednesday.
“Multiple police units attended, including specialist resources,” he said.
“Early reports indicated a firearm was discharged during the incident. This is being investigated.”
Police have since clarified this was not the case and that loud bangs reported by several community members were “specialist police using non-lethal force”.
“Understandably this incident will be concerning to people who were in the area around the time,” Riley said.
“I’d like to assure the community that the incident is contained and an investigation is ongoing.”
No injuries were sustained during the incident.
Police said all those involved were known to each other.
