Huonville is now home to a new park featuring a ‘massive mural’ honouring its Aboriginal elders and their stories.

The colourful and meaningful large-scale artwork was inspired by the stories of Tasmania’s First Nations people and painted by local artist Jamin.

First unveiled in 2021, the artwork took Jamin 24 days to complete and was “a joy to paint”.

Now, the accompanying Black Swan Park, which was identified by the community as a ‘streetscape priority recovery project’, has been completed.

“In response to the impacts of COVID, local community members identified that beautifying the Huonville streetscape was a priority recovery project,” Huon Valley Mayor Sally Doyle said.

Developed by a local designer, the park features timber sculptural seating, a deck that doubles as a performance stage, exhibition space, a water drinking fountain and grass seating area.

“We are pleased to be opening the park to our community. It will be a space where people can relax and reflect.”
