Earlier: Two bushwalkers are being escorted to safety after spending a challenging night in Tasmania’s Cradle Mountain National Park with mild hypothermia.
The pair activated a personal location device around 7:15pm on Wednesday, triggering an immediate emergency response operation.
Initial helicopter rescue attempts were thwarted by poor weather conditions, police said, forcing authorities to dispatch a ground-based search and rescue team instead.
The walking party located the distressed bushwalkers overnight and provided medical assistance for their mild hypothermia symptoms.

Police say the bushwalkers will be escorted out on foot this morning.
The incident follows the death of a Chinese tourist who became stranded in extreme weather conditions while walking in the area over the weekend.
Authorities said the tourist and their group were unprepared.
