Tasmania’s most challenging road race, the Point to Pinnacle, is marking its 30th anniversary this year with entries now open for the milestone event scheduled for Sunday, 16 November.

Organisers will host a special charity dinner at Wrest Point on race day evening to celebrate three decades of what has become known as the “world’s toughest half marathon.”

Co-Race Director Tim Smith said the anniversary provides an opportunity to reflect on the event’s evolution.

“The incredible support from participants, our amazing volunteers and Tasmanian businesses over the years is what has made Point to Pinnacle the event it is today,” Smith said.

“It started with a small group of locals running to the top of kunanyi and now it’s one of the most iconic road races in the country – and recognised globally.”

Since introducing fundraising in 2012, the event has raised $4.5 million for various causes, with nearly $2 million donated to Carries Beanies 4 Brain Cancer and $1.5 million to Movember – the event’s major charity partners.

The anniversary dinner aims to celebrate participants past and present, along with the origins of the race and its fundraising achievements.

Wrest Point and Juicy Isle Tasmania have supported the event since its inception in 1995, with Wrest Point serving as the starting venue throughout the race’s history.

Mick Francis, State Sales Manager for Juicy Isle Tasmania, said their support of the event is “about more than hydration”.

“It’s about supporting our community. Every year, we’re inspired by the people who take on the mountain,” Francis said.

The race challenges participants to climb from sea level at Wrest Point Casino to the summit of kunanyi/Mount Wellington, gaining over 1,270 metres in elevation across the 21.4km course.

Tickets to the charity dinner and race entries are now available through the event’s website.
