Festival Director and Founder Racheal Leigh said the event aims to fill a gap in the northern Tasmanian cultural landscape.

“There’s an incredible pool of creative talent here in the north, but not always enough platforms for their work to be seen,” Leigh said.

“This festival is about giving filmmakers from our region a voice, building community pride, and bringing people together during the quieter winter months.”

The festival will feature a curated selection of short films and provide opportunities for audiences to meet and network with filmmakers.

Attendees will also have the chance to vote for their favourite film of the night, creating an interactive element to the showcase.

Looking beyond the inaugural event, organisers have ambitious plans for growth.

“Looking ahead, I’m hoping to expand programming in 2026 to include workshops, Q&A sessions, and an awards program to further celebrate the achievements of Tasmania’s film community,” Leigh said.

The festival also aims to eventually attract interstate visitors, potentially boosting winter tourism in the region and enhancing Launceston’s reputation as a creative destination.
