A father and son from the state’s north-west have been caught racing across the Central Plateau at speeds of 200km/h on their way to Hobart for the MRA Toy Run.

The red Ducati and silver Suzuki riders were clocked travelling at the “inherently dangerous” speed by a police motorcyclist on Saturday morning.

The officer attempted to pull the pair over, but they failed to stop and continued riding towards Bothwell.

Acting Sergeant Chris Rockliff said they were eventually caught in the Bothwell township around 15 minutes later.

“There is no walking away from a crash at that speed,” he said.

“If you are detected committing an offence pull over.”

“There is no escaping the next officer down the road. Evading police is a serious charge.”

Both will appear in court together at a later date and have their motorcycles confiscated for a period of time.

Two other motorists were also caught speeding in the same area, one at 153km/h and another at 147km/h.

Rockliff said anyone detected speeding at more than 37km/h over the limit can face an automatic licence suspension.

He said any vehicle detected traveling at 45km/h or more in excess of the limit is liable for clamping or confiscation, as is the same for any vehicle which evades police.
