A 48-year-old man is in a serious condition after falling around 30 metres at Launceston’s popular Cataract Gorge Reserve yesterday.
Emergency services were called to the scene around 4pm on Wednesday, finding the man below a rock ledge on a steep embankment near the Zig Zag Track.
Tasmania Police Search and Rescue attended and, with help from Tamar Sea Rescue and Surf Life Saving, were able to extract the man from his location.
Ambulance Tasmania paramedics were then ferried to the injured man to provide medical care.
He was recovered from the base of the embankment and stretchered onto a boat and airlifted to the Royal Hobart Hospital.

He remains in a serious but stable condition.
The Zig Zag Track, known for its views of the gorge, is a popular walking trail in the reserve.
The circumstances that led to the fall are not yet known.
