Ironman: Major roads across Hobart and Glenorchy to close for several hours on Sunday

Over 1,000 competitors are gearing up to participate in the inaugural Ironman 70.3 triathlon event across Hobart this Sunday.

The event will include a 1.9km swim, a 90km bike ride and a 21.1km run, with athletes vying for 50 world championship qualifying spots.

The race will begin with a swim in the River Derwent at Brooke Street Pier, followed by a northbound bike along the Tasman, Domain and East Derwent Highways to Otago and back.

Competitors will then complete the running leg, which starts at the waterfront and will pass the Cenotaph before heading to the base of the Tasman Bridge.

Various road and lane closures will be implemented across the city and surrounding areas on Sunday, with locals advised to expect extensive traffic disruptions.
