The Tasmania JackJumpers have released Jack McVeigh from the final year of his contract, paving the way for the former NBL champion to chase a new opportunity.
McVeigh asked for the release to explore other “professional opportunities” and while the club is disappointed to lose him, they agreed to honour his request.
“We left no stone unturned trying to bring Jack back to Tassie, but ultimately this is Jack’s decision and we now need to respect that,” the JackJumpers’ Darren Smith said.
The club acknowledged they were “disappointed” McVeigh would not return in the “foreseeable future”, but said they would not “unreasonably” withhold a release when requested by a player.
Smith said the organisation respect McVeigh’s decision-making process and understood he needed to do what was best for himself and his family.

ESPN is reporting that the Cairns Taipans and Illawarra Hawks are both making strong moves to sign him.
The JackJumpers confirmed they will continue to apply their “established roster management strategy” that puts the “interests of the club first” as they prepare for the upcoming season.
“We have assembled a strong NBL26 roster, which we need to prioritise to ensure a competitive season,” Smith said.
