JackJumpers guard Sean Macdonald has signed a new deal with Tasmania’s NBL side after fighting back from a devastating ACL injury.
The 25-year-old ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament while playing for the Australian Boomers in July last year.
He’s now signed a one-year deal for the 2026-27 season after eight months of intensive rehabilitation.
Coach Scott Roth said Macdonald’s recovery was an example of the club’s never-give-up attitude.

“Sean’s comeback is a living, breathing example of our culture of grit and grind, it’s one for the books that’s for sure,” Roth said.
“It’s a great credit to Seany, he’s worked hard every single day, and that takes great fortitude.”

Macdonald worked with the JackJumpers’ high performance team during his recovery with the support of experts at UTAS.
The rehabilitation process was so extensive he had to relearn basic movement.
“I had to learn to walk again, but now I feel stronger than ever before,” Macdonald said.
“It’s been an intense time, but you find your silver lining too.”

“I’ve been able to use this time to rebuild my body and strength without the demands of game play and training, and the result is that I feel stronger than I did pre-injury.”
Roth said the guard returned in better physical condition than before the injury.
“Having Sean back on the court for us for another season is great news and the fact that he’s bigger, stronger and faster than ever before is a great bonus too,” he said.
Macdonald has been with the JackJumpers since their inaugural NBL season in 2020-21.

He started as a development player before earning a full roster spot in 2024-25.
The versatile guard said he was eager to repay the faith shown by the club and supporters during his recovery.
“I just can’t wait to get back on court and show my appreciation to everyone who has supported me through my recovery,” he said.
“The club and our fans have put a huge amount of faith in me during the recovery process, and I want to reward that on the court this season.”
