Disgraced Judge Gregory Geason will be removed from his position in the Supreme Court of Tasmania if he continues to delay his resignation, the Attorney-General says.
Geason was yesterday sentenced to 100 hours of community service after being found guilty of assault and emotional abuse or intimidation.
Attorney-General Guy Barnett said on Friday that he would move a motion in the House of Assembly calling on the Governor to remove Geason if he does not step down “before the next parliamentary sitting day”.
“I note the recent finalisation of charges in the Hobart Magistrates Court against Justice Gregory Geason,” Barnett said.
Earlier this week, Geason’s lawyer indicated that the judge intended to resign ‘immediately’.
However, a Supreme Court spokesperson revealed that, while Geason has notified Chief Justice Alan Blow of his intent to resign, he has yet to formally act on this decision.
