The Glenorchy City Council is mourning the loss of Alderman Jan Dunsby, who passed away this week following a battle with illness.
Dunsby was a fierce community advocate and had served on the council for three terms since her election in 2014.
In a statement, the council said she “fought passionately for many causes that were important to her and her constituents”.
“Jan’s advocacy and personality will be sadly missed,” the council said.

“We extend our deepest condolences to her family and friends.”
A funeral notice published by the Dunsby family on Friday said she passed away peacefully on Tuesday.

Former Mayor Bec Thomas said Dunsby was an “extraordinary woman, a community champion and a loyal friend”.
“She was a strong advocate for people with a disability and the everyday battler, a quiet achiever who selflessly devoted so much of her life to our community and asked for nothing in return,” Thomas said.
“She was truly one of a kind and will be very sadly missed by many.”
The council say the Tasmanian Electoral Commission will now conduct a recount for Dunsby’s seat, the second in recent weeks following the passing of Alderman Harry Quick.
