Ken Stanton has been appointed as the new Deputy Chief Magistrate of the Magistrates Court of Tasmania.
Stanton has held the position of Magistrate since June 2017 and previously served on the Mental Health Tribunal and the Guardianship and Administration Board.
He also worked as a Barrister-at-Law in Victoria and Tasmania for 18 years and in private practice for nine years.
Attorney-General Guy Barnett congratulated Stanton on his appointment, describing him as “well respected” among other Magistrates and the legal profession.
“Being based in Launceston, this appointment will provide the Magistrates Court with an enhanced leadership presence in the north of the state,” Barnett said.
“Magistrate Stanton’s detailed understanding of the operations of the court coupled with his appreciation of both the challenges faced by the court and also the opportunities for improvement, make him an ideal fit for the role.”
The position became vacant when his predecessor Michael Daly was appointed as the Associate Judge of the Supreme Court.
In November, Hobart lawyer Leigh Mackey was appointed to fill a vacant Magistrate position.
