Property owners in Kingborough will no longer need to reapply every two years to opt out of the council’s roadside herbicide spraying programme, following permanent changes to the municipality’s ‘No Spray Register’.

The Kingborough Council said this week that all current registrations will automatically continue indefinitely.

The change scraps the previous rule that had residents reapplying every two years just to stay on the list.

Mayor Paula Wriedt said it would simplify the process for residents.

“To maintain roadside vegetation, council undertakes a spraying program within both urban and rural areas of Kingborough, using government approved herbicides,” she said.

“This change also applies to all future approved applications, which will be maintained on the register indefinitely without the need for renewal.”

The council’s ‘No Spray Register’ covers only local roads within Kingborough’s jurisdiction.

State highways, including the Channel Highway and Bruny Island Main Road, remain under state government management and are not covered by the council’s register.

Property owners looking to join the register must still apply through the council and receive approval before their registration takes effect.
