A Kingston woman is warning pet owners to be cautious after her cat had its whiskers, eyebrows and eyelashes maliciously cut off.
His owner Maisie Harrison said when 1-year-old Lincoln returned home this week following an excursion outside, he was missing all of his whiskers.
Speaking to Pulse, a heartbroken Harrison said she believes it would have taken ‘at least two people’ to commit the ‘horrific’ act and believes it must have occurred within the last two days.
“He (Lincoln) does not travel further than surrounding houses, but as I live near sporting ovals it is hard to know who did it,” she said.
The RSPCA have slammed the “cruel” act, with Chief Advocacy Officer Jan Davis saying it was lucky Lincoln wasn’t hurt more.
“Puss is going to be uncomfortable for a bit,” Davis said.
“Cat’s use their whiskers for safety and spacial awareness … Fortunately pusses come home and whiskers grow back.”
Maisie said Lincoln’s eating and drinking has been affected since the incident and he is experiencing confusion and disorientation.
“I … should not have to keep my cat inside out of fear of someone abusing him, he should be able to roam around the garden safely without worry,” she said.
Anyone with information on the incident is urged to contact RSPCA Tasmania on 1300 139 947.
