Labor has committed $8 million to overhaul the Domain Tennis Centre if re-elected, aiming to secure the future of the Hobart International tournament.
The investment would upgrade court surfaces and facilities to international standards while improving accessibility and expanding capacity for emerging sports such as padel and pickleball.
Labor’s Franklin candidate Julie Collins said the redevelopment would help retain a key tourism asset for the state.
“This investment will help secure the Hobart International tournament which provides a significant boost to tourism in the state and the local economy,” Collins said.

The Domain Tennis Centre, which has stood as the heart of Tasmanian tennis for over 60 years, attracts more than 100,000 visitors annually.
It hosts the Hobart International, a tournament broadcast to 123 global markets that generates over $4.1 million in economic impact.

Labor Candidate for Clark Heidi Heck highlighted the benefits for younger players.
“With improved facilities, young people getting into tennis today will have even greater opportunities to follow their passion and achieve their dreams, all while staying right here in Hobart,” Heck said.
Tennis has seen growing participation in Tasmania, with over 12,600 adults playing regularly and the Hobart centre’s membership exceeding 800 players.
