Labor candidates have returned to Bridgewater’s Medicare Urgent Care Clinic on the final day of federal election campaigning, reinforcing their focus on healthcare as the key issue for Tasmanians.

“This is where we started the campaign in Tasmania and it’s a deliberate decision to be back here today,” Rebecca White said.

“Whether I’m out speaking to people, door-knocking or whether I’m at a campaign event or I’m speaking to people at places like Agfest, health care is the number-one issue that continues to be raised.”

“And people are absolutely committed to supporting a government that invests in Medicare.”

With voting opening tomorrow, Julie Collins framed the election as a clear-cut choice between two potential prime ministers.

“There’s only really two people who can be Prime Minister at the end of the day tomorrow. That’s Anthony Albanese and Labor or Peter Dutton and the Liberal Party,” she said.

Among others, White is contesting the seat of Lyons against the Liberals’ Susie Bower, while Collins is facing independent Peter George and Liberal candidate Josh Garvin in Franklin.

For White, the stakes are especially high. After stepping down as Tasmanian Labor leader to run for federal parliament, a loss could mark the end of her political career.

“I made the decision to put my hand up for federal parliament because I want to be part of an Anthony Albanese government that’s delivering outcomes for our state,” she said.

“I’m really proud to be standing here as a Labor candidate.”

“I think that Anthony has been an outstanding Prime Minister for our country and I’m hoping that I can join our Tassie team in Canberra to lend my experience and bring the work that I’ve done here in Tasmania to deliver outcomes for the community that I’m proudly part of.”
