One of Tasmania’s most recognisable political figures is heading back to Canberra, with Jacqui Lambie officially re-elected to the Senate.
The confirmation came on Tuesday, following a nail-biting wait after the May 3 federal election.
Lambie held off a challenge from Hobart-based One Nation candidate Lee Hanson, daughter of party founder Pauline Hanson, who fell short of claiming a Senate seat.
In a post online, Lambie thanked voters for backing her once again.
“THANK YOU Tasmania for giving me another go,” she said. “I feel privileged, grateful and humble!”
“Representing Tasmania and bringing the voices and concerns of the people to Canberra is what gets me out of bed in the morning!”
“And thanks to everyone who put up signs, shared posts and handed out at pre-poll, nothing without you!”
Lambie first entered Parliament in 2014 under the Palmer United Party banner, before breaking away to form her own party.
