A long-awaited supermarket could soon be on its way to Lauderdale, with a $26.3 million development application now before the Clarence City Council.
The proposal is for a full-line Woolworths on a vacant two-hectare site at 438 South Arm Road, near the Ringwood Road corner.
Planning consultants Neil Shephard and Associates lodged the proposal on behalf of Woolworths subsidiary Fabcot Pty Ltd.
If approved, it would be the first full-size supermarket in the area, which has seen sustained population growth in recent years.

The nearest major supermarket is a Coles at Glebe Hill Village, about six kilometres away.
Smaller retailers, including TCM Market and Hill Street Lauderdale, currently service local demand.

Plans show a 4,800-square-metre supermarket, 10 specialty shops, three larger retail tenancies and 234 car parks.
The development also includes a drive-up grocery collection point and an online order fulfilment area.
An economic report submitted with the application estimates the store’s catchment population at about 17,500, rising to nearly 20,000 by 2041.
The development is forecast to generate $55.6 million in annual sales and support 266 ongoing jobs.

A similar supermarket development was approved for the site in 2013 but was not built.
The site, formerly a plant nursery, has remained vacant since.
Public submissions to the Clarence City Council close on April 13.
