Launceston Airport is preparing to welcome more than 63,000 passengers over the upcoming Easter school holiday period, as major renovations reshape the terminal experience.

The busy two-week window from April 12 to 27 is expected to see over 4,000 passengers moving through the terminal each day.

The busiest day is tipped to be April 27, when close to 5,000 travellers are expected, thanks to the overlap of Easter and Anzac Day travel.

All of this comes as the airport undergoes its biggest upgrade in nearly 20 years, with construction currently taking place in the departures hall.

Launceston Airport’s Head of Planning, Development and Customer Ilya Brucksch said passengers will notice some changes as they travel.

“Passengers will notice worksites will be cordoned off in our departures hall while we embark on phase two of our terminal transformation works,” Brucksch said.

A temporary ‘York St Café’ will operate until May while construction continues on three new food and beverage outlets.

“I’d like to thank passengers for their patience as we get on with the largest renovation of our terminal in almost 20 years,” he said.

“Trust us, it will be worth it when it’s complete.”

To help manage the holiday rush, the airport has increased staffing, adding extra security, cleaners and customer service staff across the terminal.

Brucksch recommended arriving 90 minutes before departure time to navigate the busy period smoothly.

“We’ve put on extra staff across the airport which means more security, cleaners and customer service staff on hand to help your holiday plans take off without a hitch,” he said.
