A new cafe celebrating Tasmania’s Indigenous heritage and local produce has opened at Launceston Airport.
Kanamaluka café, named after the Aboriginal word for Tamar River, launched as part of what the airport has described as the facility’s largest terminal transformation in more than two decades.
The café forms part of an upgrade designed to showcase Tasmania’s regional offerings and create what airport officials describe as a “bespoke Tasmanian experience” for visitors.
Airport chief Ilya Brucksch said the new dining venue would resonate with passengers.

“Our vision with our terminal redevelopment is to showcase the amazing region this airport sits within,” Brucksch said.
“With Liv Eat, The Launceston Store, Gatty’s Bar and Kitchen and now Kanamaluka café open, passengers can experience a true taste of Tassie while relaxing in one of the most picturesque departures halls in the country.”

The café’s all-day menu features Tasmanian produce including local pastries, honey, jams and a signature breakfast featuring Tasmanian sausages, complemented by locally roasted coffee.
September saw 106,671 passengers through Launceston Airport, while October exceeded this with 128,615 travellers – both all-time monthly records for the terminal.
Hobart Airport is also currently embarking on a major makeover, which will double the terminal’s size and introduce features inspired by iconic Tasmanian landscapes.

Hobart Airport CEO Norris Carter said their $200 million terminal expansion, which is scheduled for completion in early 2027, will create an “unmistakably Tasmanian experience for travellers”.
