A courtside altercation involving players and spectators has disrupted a junior basketball semi-final in Launceston, with officials now investigating the matter ahead of next week’s grand finals.
The incident occurred during Monday evening’s match at Elphin Sports Centre, where spectators became involved after a dispute between players during the Launceston Basketball Association semi-final.
The LBA responded with a public statement addressing the behaviour and outlining its position on the matter.
“This behaviour is unacceptable, will not be tolerated and is not condoned by the LBA,” the association said.
“The incident affected staff and officials and was witnessed by junior members.”

The association highlighted concerns about the example set for young players present at the match.
“Adults must set the standard as role models in our basketball community,” the statement continued.
Officials have requested that footage of the incident not be shared on social media platforms, asking for existing material to be removed in accordance with association policy.
An independent tribunal will now review the matter under Basketball Australia protocols, which require external oversight for incidents in junior competitions.
