The Launceston community is mourning the loss of 17-year-old Theo Huggins, who died from head injuries sustained in a motorcycle crash.

Huggins was the pillion passenger on a trail bike that collided with a car at the intersection of Boiton Hill Road and Norwood Avenue around 8:45 pm on Saturday, September 13.

He was first treated at Launceston General Hospital before being flown to the Royal Hobart Hospital in a critical condition.

Police confirmed last Tuesday that he later died from his injuries.

In a heartfelt tribute online, the North Launceston Football Club described Huggins as “a boy full of character and zeal for life”.

“Always up for a chat, funny and kind. So popular amongst all his friends,” the club wrote.

Huggins is being remembered as the son of Troy and Sarah, brother to Lola, Jack, Ollie, Grace and Max and younger brother to Lochie and Chloe.

“To their family and friends, we offer our deepest condolences and support during this incredibly difficult time,” the football club said.

“May the memories shared bring you comfort and strength.”

The second teenager, who was driving the motorcycle, was treated for leg and pelvic injuries at the Launceston General Hospital.

Police said neither rider was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision. The driver of the SUV involved escaped without injury.
