A Launceston man has allegedly returned a staggering blood alcohol reading of 0.360 – more than seven times the legal limit.
The 25-year-old was stopped by police in Mowbray on Tuesday afternoon.
He has been charged with drink-driving and given an automatic 12-month licence disqualification.
He is due to appear before the Launceston Magistrates Court tonight.
The reading is among the highest publicly reported by Tasmania Police in recent times.
The legal limit in Tasmania is 0.05 for fully licensed drivers.
Police said the incident highlighted the ongoing dangers of drink-driving – one of the “fatal five” causes of serious crashes on the state’s roads.
“Drivers are reminded to never drive if they’re over the limit, you’re putting your life and the lives of others at risk,” police said.
The man could face a fine of between $1,025 and $6,150, disqualification from driving for 12 to 36 months and up to 12 months in prison.
