“I’m just stoked to be a part of the founding membership of something that’s been right on the cusp of Tasmania’s conversation for such a long time with the AFL,” he said.

Garwood says he’s purchased founding Devils memberships for his whole family, including his son, wife, mum & dad.

He said the Devil will be joining several other animals on his body, including snakes and mongooses.

“I couldn’t even tell you what was on there in some spots, But yes, the devil will not be out of place.”

Garwood commended the state for jumping so strongly behind the new team, with more than 125,000 people already registering to become founding members in less than 48 hours.

“The way in which this has brought Tasmania together, I think that’s probably one of the most exciting things, to see the power that is in community,” he said.

“[Getting] behind a Tasmanian initiative and putting ourselves on the national and international map is one of the most exciting parts of it.”

Garwood says he’s been “born and bred” a Geelong Cats supporter, but looks forward to rallying behind the Tasmanian team and seeing how people adopt in once play kicks off in 2028.
